Rehearsals begin for eleemosynary

The cast of our fall show had its first read-through rehearsal of Eleemosynary by Lee Blessing yesterday evening at the Friedlander’s Center in Clarksburg.

As we mentioned in our last post, we were unable to cast the show we originally had planned because not enough actors auditioned. But we had three very talented women who did audition so director Jerry McKeen decided to do a show that will highlight their talents.

Eleemosynary is the perfect choice. And after last night, we’re more convinced of that than ever! Both thoughtful and funny, the play is a touching look into the relationships among the women in the Westbrook family.

Phyl Charnes plays Dorothea, a woman who is an eccentric by choice, and she does it with a flare.

Susan C. Nichols is Artie (short for Artemis), Dorothea’s daughter, who has spent most of her life trying to get away from her mother’s domination.

Jordan Kennedy Rea will play Echo, Artie’s daughter, but raised by Dorothea. She is a bright and sensitive girl intent on winning the national spelling bee.

Look for more about these ladies and their roles as we progress through the rehearsal process.

The show will run from November 7-17 at the Urchak Theatre in the Progressive Women’s Association building in Clarksburg, WV. We’ll have more details soon.
