Doug Seckman plays Sal in our upcoming production of Holy Cannoli opening June 19 in Clarksburg.
Doug teaches English at Lewis County High School where he also directs the spring musicals. He has a B.A. in Theatre from WV Wesleyan College and education degree from Glenville State College. He has been involved with numerous shows. Some of his favorite roles include Eeyore (The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh) Jim Bayliss (All My Sons), Greg (A Chorus Line), Himself (The Complete Works of William Shakespeare [Abridged]), Judas (Godspell), Baker (Into the Woods), and Narrator (The Rocky Horror Show).
We asked him to tell us a little about how he got involved in theatre, and here’s what he told us.
As a little boy I wanted to be a Transformer. When I realized becoming a gigantic robot would be impossible, I thought perhaps I could be one of the Masters of the Universe or my favorite super hero, Hawkman. Alas, I was terrified of heights. My imagination ran wild, but little did I know this was all rehearsal for what would become one of my greatest passions — Theatre!
I started later than most in the theatre world as I auditioned for what would become my first role while at Glenville State College in probably the longest play ever — Cyrano de Bergerac. I was hooked, and what a world it has been ever since! I’ve met many dramatic people over the past 14 years who have both amazed and inspired me. Some of whom have become my very best friends! Many thanks to them all and you too for supporting the arts in West Virginia!
Welcome to ACT 2, Doug! We’re so glad you are playing with us!
