Since moving from Brooklyn, New York to Harrison County, West Virginia, 41 years ago, Cyndy has been involved in local community theater. She began her involvement at the Clarksburg Art Center, working behind the scenes and backstage for a few years before venturing onstage. Once onstage, Cyndy got “bitten by the performance bug,” and has played numerous roles in both musicals and plays, in several local community theater groups including the ArtCenter, ACT 2 Theatre Company, Fairmont Town and Gown Players, and Seven Stories Theatre.
About her role in The Oldest Profession she says,
“Playing the role of Edna in “The Oldest Profession” has challenged me as an actress in so many ways. This role as a prostitute has made me step out of my comfort zone. Creating the character (as with all roles) means coming up with a “back story” or as we actors commonly call it “sub-text.” In other words, this is the story that isn’t told about your character in the script.
Like Edna, I am very loyal and I am very protective of my friends. However, Edna is a brassy, no nonsense kind of girl. She’s daring and adventurous and with her anything goes! I am more cautious than Edna in that respect. However, I can honestly say that I love Edna and with each rehearsal see more and more of her in me.
Being a part of this production has eliminated some stereotypes that I have had. Also, being a part of this cast has brought me new friendships. We all support each other onstage and off. I am looking forward to performing with all of these women.”
