Jackie Spicer loves the truth of theatrical storytelling

Jackie Spicer

Jackie Spicer returns to the ACT 2 stage bringing her versatile talents to the role of Missy, a maid with big dreams of becoming a famous actress. She’s another of our more experienced cast members.. Whether it’s drama or comedy, we can always count on Jackie to bring focus and professionalism to whatever show she’s in. She told us a little about her beginnings in theatre and it’s importance in her life.

I started acting in community theatre about 15 years ago in a local production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. In high school, I was involved in two shows with the ACT 2 Theatre Company—My Fair Lady and The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe—a handful of productions with Harrison County Summer Theatre, and the Bridgeport Hight School senior production ofThe Mystery of Edwin Drood.

I graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College in December 2012 with two Bachelor of Arts degrees, one in English (Literature) and one in Theatre Arts (Acting/Directing). The highlights of my time at WVWC include playing Evelyn in The Shape of Things, Gay Wellington in You Can’t Take It With You, and Sister James in Doubt, as well as directing the world premiere of a show written by Fairmont native Reggie Jose entitled Not Here.

Since graduating from college, I’ve been pleased to work on two more plays the ACT 2: reasons to be pretty and Polterguest.

Being even a small part of sharing the art of theatre with our community is a privilege and a sincere joy. It is also, as Adrean Grenier once put it, “that ineffable compulsion to create. I want to tell stories, but really I also want to challenge conventional thoughts and ideas. I seek truth, as illusive as it may be. If I ever found truth I might stop, but it always evades me.”

Come see Jackie in What The Bellhop Saw this month. The character she plays in this show is so very different that the last one she played with ACT 2 in reasons to be pretty. You’ve seen her in drama. Now come see her in this comedic farce!
