The ACT 2 Theatre Company will present a public reading of a new play by local playwright, Suzie Hall on Thursday, December 11 at 7:30 p.m. at Waldomore in Clarksburg.
The play, titled “1 IN 4” addresses the statistic that one in four college women will be sexually assaulted before they graduate and follows the experiences of four women. This event is free and open to the public.
The four actresses who will read the parts of Kate, Vesper, Maggie, and Ceri are Susan Capicotto Nichols, Emily Moore, Kaici Ellison, and Lindsay Morgan. Stage directions will be read by Phyl Charnes to allow those listening to get a mental picture of the way the action is intended to appear.
This public reading has more than one purpose.
- It is an opportunity for ACT 2 Theatre to promote, highlight, and encourage local theatrical talent: the playwright and the actresses who will be reading.
- Because the play is still being developed and is not yet in it’s final form, this public reading will allow the playwright to identify elements where she might want to make adjustments in the dialog and structure of the play.
- It is being produced in conjunction with the Pare Lorentz International Film Festival and so it allows two local non-profit arts organizations to work together toward their creative goals.
- And, at the end of the reading, time will be allowed for audience members to share their reactions to the play and give constructive feedback to the playwright.
The playwright, Suzie Hall, is a recent graduate of Fairmont State University’s Communication and Theatre Arts program.
