Community theatre at its finest…
Our evening of laughter featuring two funny one-act plays opened last night at the ‘Friedlander’s Center’ (also home of The Starving Artists Studio) to a wonderful opening night audience.
Patrons were met with our signature candlelight cabaret seating with complimentary wine and cheese to start off the evening and dessert at intermission.
The first play featured is Visitor from Forest Hills which is a scene from a full-length play by Neil Simon entitled Plaza Suite. Trina Byard and John Dornblazer are the frantic parents-of-the-bride who try desperately, and without much success, to coax their daughter (played by Elizabeth Mearns) out of the bathroom so the wedding can proceed. In a last ditch attempt, they call their future son-in-law (played by Kirkland Pyles) to see if he can help. It’s a hilarious affair we get to see for seven more performances!
The second one-act is a new play by Chuck Smith entitled Polterguest. Hunter Riley plays a guy grieving the unexpected death of his late fiancé. He consults the psychic, Zandra, (played by Deb Sambol) to help him make contact with her so he can finally say goodbye. When the spirit does appear things really get interesting. Is she really the spirit of his fiancé, or an impostor? Jackie Spicer plays the Spirit with spirit to a T. This piece has some touching moments along with the funny ones.
We have more performances tonight, tomorrow, and Sunday, and next week March 6-9 at the Friedlander’s Center at 354 Main Street in Clarksburg, WV. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door. If you have a group, you can reserve a table for 8 people for only $70.
So come on out and have a relaxing evening of food and fun with us!
