Auditions are coming up on April 20 for our production of Neil LaBute’s Reasons To Be Pretty. it’s a play about society’s obsession with physical appearance and it’s effect on the lives of the four people who are the characters in this play. All the characters are ordinary people, people that you know — or know of — in everyday life.
This post focuses on the men in the story.
Greg and Kent are best friends who are very different people. They work at a food packing factory and spend most of their breaks together.
Greg
Greg is a nice guy who has a way of saying the wrong thing without being aware of it. At the beginning of the play, he and his girlfriend, Steph, are breaking up because of something he said. Though life is not what he thought it would be, he reads a lot of classic American literature in an effort to better himself. He’s not a fighter and prefers to avoid conflict.
This character is in all 8 scenes.
Kent
Kent is married to Carly. He’s kind of a chauvinistic jock and values women only by their appearance. He thinks Greg’s reading is time wasted. He prefers to focus on the company softball team. Trophies, in sports and beautiful women, are his focus. He’s proud that he’s married to such a hot chick, but isn’t hesitant to be unfaithful to her.
This character is in 3 of the 8 scenes.
